The Fernie District Historical Society was founded in 1964 and is now also known as the Fernie Museum. It has been dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Fernie. The museum displays artefacts, photographs and documents that are related to the development of Fernie. The displays in the museum were designed to showcase life in Fernie in the early part of the twentieth century. It is hoped that these displays will remind locals of their history and heritage as well as encourage visitors to stay longer and learn more about the Elk Valley.
