Aspen Detailed Description

The basic guideline for Aspen Mountain is that the intermediate terrain is on the top knob around the summit and in the gullies between the ridges. The expert stuff drops from the ridges into the gullies. Of the blacks, take your pick and be sure you’re up to it. These runs are very black. For bumps and trees, Bell Mountain right under the gondola is a good choice. A word of warning: There are no green runs on Aspen Mountain, making it one of the only mountains in North America to do so! This mountain is not for the novice or beginning skier. However if you are more advanced, after a storm you are sure to find some of the best powder around! Check with the ski patrol for advice before heading out.

Aspen Highlands has a more varied terrain with something for everyone. Three high-speed quads whisk you to the summit so you’re not wasting time on lifts. Experts should head for the steeps at the top of Loge Peak in the Steeplechase (sunny in the morning) and Olympic Bowl (sunny in the afternoon) areas. These are very steep with no bail-out areas, so be sure you want to be here. Both areas have long cat tracks back to lifts.

The easiest way to get to Aspen is through the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport a mere 3 miles from Aspen Village. Flights are available through Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, or U.S. Airways Express.
